Tahoe Rim Trail September 2019 Day 8

Day 8
We have sorted out our Tahoe City resupply nights and have two days to hike before needing to be in Tahoe City to catch up to our latest itinerary. It is not possible to get back into Desolation Wilderness in that amount of time, so we decided to hike counterclockwise away from SLT and get as many miles done closing the loop, in the opposite direction, as we can. We have to make these day hikes as once you get beyond Spooner Lake, transportation becomes more difficult until you reach Mt Rose Ski area. This has been the biggest disappointment of the area around Lake Tahoe, there is no mass transit system that serves the Lake as a whole. It seems very odd that there is no organized bus service that circles the lake and while Uber is available, it is one of the top two most expensive (per mile) rides in all of California/Nevada at about a $1.50 per mile.
We get an Uber from the hotel in the morning to close to the Kingsbury North Trailhead. I say close because the trail weaves near the access road of Andria Drive, I picked getting let off at Barrett Dr and more actual TRT walking time. Our Uber driver this morning was Gary and Gary turns out to be a gem of a guy and I got his business card and we will use him to take us to TC in a couple of days.
The morning is perfect, blue skies, perfect temperature for walking.

This section turned out to be one of my favorites. It has smooth trail and almost level walking. The views were superb.

Monster Cedar Trees are mixed in with the Pines

Halfway through the day you break out of the tree line and are gifted with a great view of the entire Lake Tahoe. There is a bench and it makes it a wonderful place to stop and just relax.

All of Lake Tahoe

Near Spooner trailhead the woods have been starting to be cleared of dead wood to remove any excess fuel for wildfires.

After we finished we did make arrangements with another trail angel, Kevin, to pick us up at the trailhead after our hike. We had some miscommunication with the location. We ended up walking down busy Hwy 50 about a mile to where it meets Hwy 28. To his credit Kevin found us sitting by the side of the road. A successful day all around.
